HempWood® Engineered Hardwood Flooring
HempWood Engineered Hardwood aims to create a brighter future for the planet with its sustainable building materials and negative carbon footprint. This unique collection is made in the USA and inspired by bamboo flooring. Using hemp as a solid hardwood substitute, HempWood has worked tirelessly adapting the process of creating bamboo-based lumber into one that utilizes different plant species instead, like eucalyptus and hemp. The hemp is pressed into 6" square molds (6' long), submerged in a no added formaldehyde, soy-based adhesive, and then baked. After baking, the HempWood Blocks are cut into flooring and coated with a water-resistant sealer. All hemp is grown within 100 miles of the factory in Murray, Kentucky, introducing a new cash crop to the world's farmers. HempWood’s intent was never to create just another hardwood alternative; they strive to be one of the most sustainable and environmentally conscious flooring companies. Their wood alternatives lessen the devastating effects of deforestation in the harvesting process. Hemp grows in 120 days, whereas oak trees take 50-100 years. This allows for a faster growth rate/turnover and a negative carbon footprint. Growing hemp stores and removes 2 tons of carbon dioxide per acre, and its products are Carb 2 & TSCA VI compliant. This flooring is 20% harder than hickory and specifically engineered for stability. Make sure to look at all the durable styles of HempWood Engineered Hardwood below!
